Native to South America, Anadenanthera colubrina (also known as Cebil or Vilca) is closely related to Anadenanthera peregrina, with both species sharing similar features. The primary distinction lies in the bark—colubrina has a darker, smoother texture. The seeds are nearly identical in appearance, and chemical analysis is needed to differentiate them.
Cebil trees can reach heights of 20 meters but can be maintained smaller in cultivation. When in bloom, they produce white pom-pom-like flowers. The seeds are valued for their flat shape and reddish color, while colubrina wood, known as Curupay, is prized for its decorative grain and durability.
